Albert Berner did his apprenticeship as a butcher but already he had his doubts that this would be his future. So he decided against manual work and completed as apprenticeship as a commercial wholesaler in 1952. Then, as a sales representative, Albert Berner learnt in the field what customers wanted and how they want to be treated. In 1957 he seized his chance and started his own business selling screws.
With tireless effort and a constant stream of new ideas, he continuously expanded his business and developing it into an international concern.
The passionate sportsman – former footballer, now golfer – made it his principle to keep his feet on the ground and to stay realistic. "We have responsibility for our employees" has always been and still is Albert Berner′s maxim. "I have a good relationship with my employees and know they play a large part in our success." This attitude is reflected in the many honors the company founder has received over the years.
"A guiding light for success and entrepreneurship", was the characterization French President Jacques Chirac gave when he decorated him with the "Légion d’honneur" (Order of the Knights of the Legion of Honor) in 2003. This is an honor only few foreigners have received. On his 70th birthday, Albert Berner received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class. This decoration was bestowed on him in acknowledgement of his exemplary economic successes and his wide-ranging social and cultural commitment to people in the region.
